Read to Succeed
Read to Succeed Act 284 is rooted in the research that students who are not reading proficiently by third grade are four times more likely not to graduate from high school on time. It is far better to provide services for striving readers early on in their educational journey rather than later, because there is less ground to cover.
Parents will receive regular reports of how their child is performing as a reader with regards to grade level expectations. Parents will also be notified if their child is receiving interventions. Literacy Assessment Portfolios (LAP) will be shared with parents, and information for how parents can support their reader at home will be given.
State Standards
In 2015, the SC State Board of Education adopted the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate in order for all public schools in the state to speak the same language and work toward a shared vision of the knowledge, skills and characteristics needed for students to be successful in higher learning and careers. At SPES, we strive to build our students toward these characteristics throughout our implementation of the standards we teach.
